River of No Return Wilderness Outfitters
River of No Return Wilderness Outfitters began in early 2013. Every fall, winter and spring we look forward to our next summer on the river. We have a wonderful and diverse group of guides, who are all trained in First Aid/CPR, are skilled whitewater oarsmen, and are licensed by the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board. Our company caters primarily to families. The Main Salmon is perfect for a family vacation with our beautiful beaches, safe but exciting rapids, and usually great weather in the summer months. Our river trips are relaxed and all-inclusive on the river. We provide all of the food, beverages, camping gear, rafting gear (including inflatable kayaks and stand-up-paddle-boards for your use), and of course, guides to lead you safely down the river. All in all, our trips are a great way to spend your vacation. We know that if you weren’t out on the river for your vacation, we wouldn’t be there either.
Matt & Breann green
Matt and Breann both grew up in Salmon, went away to college, and decided to come back to Salmon to make a living. They love Idaho and the river and are excited to share it with other families. Both Matt and Breann have worked on the Salmon River since 2001. In their spare time, Matt works for Trout Unlimited as a river restoration project planner, Breann works for a conservation organization doing conservation easements, and they are always busy trying to keep up with Zane and his many activities.
Zach (aka Uncle Zach or Zachajawea) has been working on the Salmon River for eight years. His superior whitewater boating and kayaking skills make him one of the best guides on the Salmon River. Zach is part mountain man, an excellent wilderness cook, and chief party instigator. He spends his winters snowboarding and recently graduated from the Spokane Fire Fighters Academy.
An Idaho native, Mike Hovey has spent twenty plus seasons guiding on the Salmon River. Guest safety is Mike’s first priority. Mike loves to share the river canyon and this special river with guests from around the world. His goal is that all guests have a wonderful time and a special vacation. The first thirteen years of his guiding experiences’ off-seasons were spent teaching at American Falls High School, where in 1990 he was selected as Idaho’s Teacher of the Year. Upon retirement from teaching in 2004 he moved to Boise and started a Dutch Oven Catering and Raft Repair business. When not on the Main Salmon you can find Mike on various western rivers, New Zealand rivers, writing the third edition of a Dutch Oven cookbook he co-authored, tele-skiing, biking and improving his photographic skills. Mike’s constant K-9 companion is Shailah, a rescued red Australian Cattle Dog. Mike’s superior river kitchen skills will not be forgotten on your trip, such as Reta’s Apple Dumpling Cake. Mike’s motto on the river is, “Good Times, Good Friends, and Good Food.”
Andy and Marie Chroninger
Andy and Marie started rafting together over a decade ago on the Main Salmon River. While living in Salmon, Idaho, they found an opportunity to go on the River of No Return Main Salmon and were hooked on the first trip. Andy and Marie have spent many seasons on both the Middle Fork and Main Salmon River. On the river, they discovered the joy of dutch oven cooking and sharing their beautiful state with anyone on a river trip. Andy grew up in Idaho on the western side of the state. After moving west from the mid-west to attend college, Marie eventually settled in Idaho. They have 4 children and 9 grandchildren and are very excited to be on the River of No Return Wilderness Outfitters’ crew.
