The Main Salmon River is Idaho’s version of Arizona’s Colorado River. The Salmon River canyon is deeper than the Grand Canyon, with an abundance of trees and an equally extravagant amount of wildlife. The water is clear and warm. The Main Salmon is the longest un-dammed river in the lower 48, so it flows fast and wild in June and more tame and gentle in August. The canyon has much more to offer than just a white water adventure. It has many side streams, trails, ranches, abandoned homesteads, hot springs, abandoned gold mines, and of course it’s renowned big sandy beaches. The Main Salmon is a river experience which seems too short but lasts a lifetime.
